Hello I am

Chantelle Stander

Occupational Therapist & Practice Owner

I’m a wife, mother, occupational therapist, practice owner, and avid book lover. Born and raised in the East Rand, I earned my occupational therapy degree from the beautiful University of Stellenbosch in 2009. I began my career serving in the clinics of Tshwane Region C, where I honed my ability to adapt and innovate in challenging circumstances.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by the human mind. Over the last 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of exploring this passion in the field of mental health. I started as a junior therapist in 2011, moved into a practice management role in 2013, and in 2016, I became the proud practice owner.

Along the way, I’ve completed post-graduate training in Experiential and Projective Group Therapy Techniques, APOM, Comprehensive DBT, and Fitness to Drive. I’m deeply committed to both personal growth and professional excellence, which I strive to integrate into my practice, not just for my clients but for my team as well. I believe that a balanced and happy team provides the best possible care, and I aim to foster an environment that encourages both occupational balance and continuous development.

I’m also passionate about contributing to the broader OT community. I currently serve on the OTASA coding and billing committee (since 2021), I’m the director of mentorship for INSTOPP (since 2022). Additionally, I mentor final-year OT students from the University of Pretoria. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of being invited to present workshops on topics such as in-patient group therapy, mental well-being and private practice management for organizations like OTASA, INSTOPP, OTGrow, POTS and the University of Pretoria.

When I’m not at work, you can find me enjoying dance parties or doing crafts with my kids, dreaming about the future with my husband, or philosophizing over dinner with friends.

"Occupational therapist who empowers others to unlock their potential, with a special focus on mental health and the joy of connection...."

I am an occupational therapist to the core! I am deeply passionate about unlocking the untapped potential in everyone I meet. With a focus on mental health, I strive to help individuals recognise and achieve their potential, regardless of the challenges they face.
I earned my MSc(OT) from WITS in 2023, building on my BSc(OT)WITS from 2013. I specialise in group therapy, which I find incredibly effective in fostering connection and support. In addition, my journey has included serving as an adolescent unit manager for many years, where I honed my skills in guiding young people through their mental health journeys.

I’ve pursued additional certifications in areas such as OT Grow group therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Functional Capacity Evaluations, and Parent-Infant Psychotherapy. This has enriched my expertise in individual assessments, and maternal and adolescent mental health.

My professional philosophy centres on collaboration and empowerment, as I believe that therapy should be a partnership which respects each individual’s unique story. I presented my master’s research at INSTOPP and the OTASA Congress in 2024, and I actively contribute to various OTASA projects, the latest of which was the Depression SOP Committee.

Outside of work, I embrace the spirit of the season as & “Mrs. Christmas,” and delight in spreading joy and laughter! I balance my professional life with my personal passions, thus fueling my drive to make a difference every day.

Lauren Burn

Occupational Therapist & Practice Manager

"An occupational therapist passionate about using creative therapy to help others discover their strengths and build lives worth living...."

Hi, I am Lauren and I love that as an OT, I get to walk alongside others and help them build lives that are worth living. I qualified at UCT in 2013, and over the last 11 years I’ve been on a beautiful journey of learning creative ways to support people with their mental health. I am OT Grow trained and use the interactive model daily to guide me with my groups.

My sensory intelligence practitioner training (obtained in 2019) allows me to understand the sensory needs of my clients. In 2021 and 2022 I completed a two year course in group analysis by the Centre for Group Analytic Studies (CGAS) to deepen my understanding of groups, an area of my work I am passionate about.
I have also completed the PsyFCE training presented by Karen Theunissen to hone my assessment skills.

I am particularly passionate about making use of creative mediums in my therapy. Projective techniques and expressive art are some of my favourite techniques to use. I come alive when I try new activities with my groups, and I am constantly on the lookout for unique ways for people to experience meaningful connection with themselves and with others. My patience and gentle nature are two personal qualities I use in my interactions with my clients, and you will find that self-compassion is at the heart of a lot of the therapy I provide.

Outside of work, I find joy in spending time with my friends and family, watercolour painting, walking and running, and reading a good novel. A quote that inspires me as I go about my work as an OT: “To inspire people, don’t show them your superpowers. Show them theirs.”- Alexander den Heijer

OUR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS

Priscilla Myburgh

Occupational Therapist

"I’m passionate about reshaping behavior through self-compassion, connection, and evidence-based practice, all while embracing authenticity and growth."

I began my academic journey in physiotherapy but soon discovered my true passion lay in mental health, prompting me to switch my degree.
I am deeply interested in understanding human behaviour and reshaping it through self-compassion and self-awareness. Building connections and offering insights into healthy boundary setting are central to my work, helping clients reach their full potential. I graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in 2017 and valued my community service year, primarily working with clients facing psychosis and intellectual disabilities.

For the past five years, I have been working with CL Stander and Associates, where I’ve gained OT Grow training and extensive experience in group therapy.
I love group therapy and witnessing the remarkable changes that arise from group cohesion and support. I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in psychiatry at the University of the Witwatersrand, focusing my research on the perceptions of occupational therapists regarding the implementation of routine outcome measurement in private psychiatric settings.

My goal is to uncover the reasons behind the lack of evidence in our discipline and to promote evidence-based practice. As a dynamic, fast-paced and dedicated occupational therapist, I bring a lot of love to my work while valuing authenticity and occasionally adopting a straightforward approach.

I love being outdoors, thrive in social settings, and actively seek out engaging physical activities.

Melissa Joynt

Occupational Therapist

"With a passion for creative problem-solving, I’m Melissa Joynt, an OT dedicated to helping individuals find strength and hope through small, meaningful changes."

Hi, my name is Melissa Joynt and I’m an OT who loves any opportunity to practice creative problem solving.
I feel blessed by the opportunity to engage with people in their vulnerable moments and support them in finding strength in themselves.

I received my degree in Occupational therapy from the university of the free state and completed my community service in Rural Transkei, where I managed my own department.

I am OT grow trained and have found a special interest in psychiatric OT.
My love for this sphere seems to stem from my intrigue in how humans can be our own strongest allies or worst enemies.
I’m zealous to help individuals find meaning in life and discover the power of small positive changes.

My life is deeply enriched by seeing individuals rediscover hope, this in turn has become an integral part of my therapeutic milieu.

In my free time you’ll find me anywhere the sun shines or water flows. I’ll be singing or laughing, hopefully surrounded my loved ones and eating hearty food.

Charis Stols

Occupational Therapist

"I'm Charis, an OT who thrives on harnessing the power of group therapy to inspire positive change and help clients rediscover their inner strengths."

Hi, I’m Charis (pronounced Kha-ris). I’m passionate about OT and group therapy; I love how it can create positive change in people’s perspectives and daily lives.
I earned my BSc in Occupational Therapy from Wits in 2019 and joined this team in 2021.

I’m currently pursuing my Master’s degree focused on self-efficacy and discharge preparedness to help clients be more confident to apply the new skills they learn and build healthy habits when they return home.

OT has helped me grow the best parts of myself and has allowed me to use my problem-solving skills to help clients build a life of meaning and purpose. It’s helped me realise the power of mindset, as we often know ‘what’ to do, but in reality, it’s difficult to set boundaries, take personal responsibility and actually implement new strategies.

OT has allowed me to help people to rediscover their inner strengths, which often get forgotten when experiencing mental health challenges; which I think is perfectly depicted in the painting by Edvard Munch called ‘The Scream’. It illustrates the panic, isolation, and internal chaos that many people struggling with mental health experience. My goal it to guide my clients to reframe these overwhelming feelings from emotional turbulence to a source of strength and hope—essentially, to repaint their own sunrise to signify new possibilities.

I enjoy new recipes, painting, chatting with loved ones, finding peace in nature and walks at sunsets.

OUR ADMINISTRATION TEAM

Thembiswa Osh

Office Adminstrator

"I'm an Executive Administration Assistant and psychology graduate, passionate about mental health advocacy and committed to bringing essential care to my hometown."

My name is Thembiswa Osh, and I am an Executive Administration Assistant at CL Stander & Associates, as well as a recent psychology graduate from Northwest University. I aspire to become a fully qualified psychologist and am currently seeking to further my studies in this field, as I only hold an undergraduate degree in psychology.

I chose this career path not only for my own growth but also for the benefit of my community back home. Many individuals struggle with mental health issues and do not receive the help they need due to the lack of mental health professionals in my hometown. People often have to travel for hours to access necessary care, and I aim to be the catalyst for change by becoming the first mental health professional in a community that lacks such opportunities.

Working alongside talented occupational therapists has inspired me to pursue my dreams in the mental health field, as they approach their work with such ease and dedication. In addition to my career goals, I am also exploring my passion for content creation on the side.

As a young mom, I strive to be a strong role model while cherishing the time spent with my loved ones outside of work. I believe that nurturing these relationships is essential, as the moments we share with family are truly invaluable.

Thandeka Khoza

Office Administrator

"I am dedicated to ensuring smooth therapy operations while balancing the joys and responsibilities of being a mother of six."

Hi, I’m Thandeka. For the past 10 years, I’ve been the Executive Office Administrator at CL Stander & Associates Inc. Over time, this role has evolved significantly, requiring a dynamic and proactive approach to ensure that everything necessary for therapy sessions to run smoothly is taken care of. I believe that my hard work, dedication, and flexibility have been key to thriving in this position.

Outside of work, I’m a devoted mother of six—three biological children and three much younger siblings who have been entrusted to my care. I take this responsibility seriously and am passionate about instilling values in them that will help them succeed in life.

Working in a mental health setting has also taught me the importance of prioritizing my own well-being. I believe that by taking care of myself, I can show up as the best version of me for my children.

When I’m not at work, you’ll find me spending quality time with my kids and managing the many tasks that come with raising a healthy and happy family.
